The Importance of Vacation

Occasionally, I like to use my blog as a platform to let my followers know when I will be taking short breaks. August is a lovely month for our family; it’s when we celebrate our wedding anniversary! To that end, we are anticipating a break tentatively from August 4th – August 15th but things are still in flux. We are hoping to get away and enjoy our new kayaks. To that end, I’d like to start this week off with a thought-provoking video on the importance of vacations. Let me know if you are planning anything fun this summer in the comments below.

Congrats on your upcoming anniversary, can’t believe it’s four years already!!!! You’ll probably appreciate a call I received last week from a couple I married 22 years ago. They credit me with the success of their marriage, not true but nice to hear and it bodes well for you guys!

Thank you so much! We miss you; I’m planning on coming down to visit so we’ll have to make sure we touch base when I do! Perhaps we can rope my mother into a big barbecue… 🙂

Be prepared though that vacations may not always be in your future. Just ask a caregiver of someone with a chronic illness. My husband is in the early stages of Parkinson’s and Dementia … Parkinson’s caused Apathy as early as 10 years ago and my husband has no desire to be anywhere but home … our outings are to the Drs. … Grocery Store … Walmart … Church and out to eat about once a week … Up until about 5 years ago my daughter occasionally would take me on a short trip for a night or 2 … leaving my husband at home … but now I can no longer do that … it looks like vacations are a thing of the past for me.

But I have learned to entertain myself at home with my gardening … raising butterflies … enjoying my bluebirds and creating and selling my handmade items on Etsy … I have a friend is only in her 50’s and vacations were over for her many many years ago … she has a severely Autistic son … he is approaching his 26th birthday … Respite helps her get out on Saturdays but no vacations for this family.

If you are young and healthy enjoy your vacations while you can … they are not guaranteed forever …

I completely understand, Kathy. I actually wrote a post last week about this as we had a death in the family that reaffirmed the idea that life is short. We’ve been doing a lot of reflecting as a family.

I am so happy that you’ve found some activities that can bring you a little break and will keep your family in my thoughts.
