Finding 10 Photographs: Quick Ideas for Etsy

After Etsy announced it updated product listings to include ten photograph slots (instead of just five), the internet blew up with comments, questions, and concerns. I published a break down on Wednesday advising my followers not to worry, but worrying is something that can be hard to stop. I get it. I’m the very definition of a Nervous Nellie so once my mind gets caught on something, breaking that cycle can be difficult. It seems that Etsy anticipated its users having a similar thought process so they went so far as to create some cues to guide you. When creating a listing, this image now pops up:

While the first photograph doesn’t have a cue, the following nine can be summarized as follows:

1. Front facing angle

2. Alternate view (upside down?)

3. Left facing

4. Right facing

5. Close-up

6. Modeled shot

7. Sizing references

8. Lifestyle shot

9. Variations (?)

There’s still a lot of questions floating around, and I’ll be the first to admit I’m a little clueless as to how I’m going to outfit MY Etsy shop TheWriteAssistant. After all, digital sellers have a particularly hard battle ahead. One thing I suggested, in addition to these wonderful albiet someone confusing ideas, is that you can make use of these new slots for graphics to clarify your listing. Have you considered the following ideas?

1. Refund/exchange policy graphic

2. Lead time reminder

3. Discount or promotional blast

4. Previous positive reviews

There’s a lot of work to be, sure, but again I want to caution everyone to look at this with open minds. I’m eager to hear, now that the dust has settled, how do you feel about this change and do you have any other ideas as to how to best utilize these new slots?
