It is no secret that we are smack dab in the middle of the holiday shopping season! I’ve spent a lot of time discussing the importance of identifying what holidays your target market celebrates and how you can position your products to excel.     I would add another tip, especially for those for whom this season is a hot time in their business:

    Don’t lose your own holiday in the course of your work. See it as part of your job description as a business owner to carve out time to refresh your spirit and enjoy time both alone and with those you love. If you subscribe to a religious tradition, don’t let your work to help OTHERS celebrate the holidays push your own spirituality to the back burner, or completely off the stove. Your customers may not know whether you take a few minutes each day to gaze into the flickering light of your own Advent candles, or took your kids to cut down a Christmas tree, or fried latkes after lighting the menorah, but they will perceive that you are not just a seller cashing in on a commercial opportunity, but a person of genuine depth whom they can trust to provide something to nurture their own depths during a season they find meaningful.
