Branded Candy: Getting Parents Attention on Halloween

My sister is an absolute whiz at all things crafty but she has since retired her small business some years ago. Courtney was the owner of a special effects company called Creature Creations based in Connecticut and she created all manner of ghouls through airbrush painting, freestyle body painting, and prosthetic techniques. She could create wigs, costumes, accessories, and she could do it in a way that had you believing you were that creature.

I haven’t given up on getting her to revisit her abilities but that is a story for another day.

One year, she created branded candy. You’ve probably seen something similar on Pinterest but to me it was a brilliant marketing idea. She took a regular chocolate bar but covered it with a wrapping that detailed a special message. It was simple enough as all it took was a little know how on the computer and a colored printer but it blew me away.

So here’s my question for you: This Halloween will you be marketing to parents that come to your door?

Now I know this is not for everyone. Please do not assume I am telling you to start throwing business cards at parents if you sell mature products or they are not within your target audience. What I am suggesting is that if your market is children or parents then you might want to invest in a little branded candy.

It could be as simple as printing out little stickers that have your business details on it and slapping it on some mini Snickers!

I can tell you right now that it gets my attention. Parents generally look through the candy before they let their little monsters go at it so it is direct marketing. It is guerrilla marketing!

What I really want to know is if you’ve done something like this before and if so what were the responses? Pictures are always welcome and should be included in the comments below!
