Succeeding on Etsy in 2016

How has your year been so far? We are now two weeks into the final quarter of the year so you should be evaluating how the past year has been financially. The holiday season often provides a significant bump in revenue for many handmade sellers but it is always important to consider the trends of past quarters as well. Dani Marie, the CEO of the HANDMADE SELLER MAGAZINE recently published an article detailing how Etsy sellers are crushing their sales goals.

The article is interesting because it poses a challenge to the reader. If you want to be successful, you need to work extremely hard for it. I think what trips most people up is that they feel they are working hard but they are often working in circles and not actually engaging in business practices that are beneficial. Have you ever heard of the phrase, “Work smarter, not harder”? This applies very much on Etsy.

As unpopular as it may be, you will NOT crush it if you don’t know what you are doing.

I know that sounds a little… well…. harsh? Maybe counter-intuitive? If you really stop and think critically though it makes sense. If you build it, people will only come if you have the photography, SEO, copy, marketing, branding, and promotional know-how to get them coming and keep them there. This article reviews that there are many, many sellers crushing it and honestly you can be one of them too if you are really ready to make some sacrifices and look at your shop with a critical eye.

(That last bit is a lot harder than people realize and I’m the first to admit it can be a painful process.)
