Don’t Be Afraid To Blog

It might surprise you that even though I am a writer, for the longest time the idea of a blog scared me. Seriously. I spend a good portion of my day writing for others, so when it came time to turn the pen (or rather the keyboard) back onto me, I clammed up a bit. I know now that was a silly thing to do. Perhaps more importantly, it was a deleterious thing to do for my business.
Blogging is good for business. Period. It creates content (not copy) and encourages discussion.

So why wasn’t I blogging? I didn’t know if anyone wanted to hear my voice. Not the marketing prose but me and my guiding principles for my company. The Write Assistant LLC is founded on three principles: Honesty, empowerment, and passion.

My clients and my followers know that my name means everything to me, which is why my tagline is “Your Trusted Writing Service.” I will never peddle copy to someone who doesn’t need it, I won’t make false promises, and I won’t offer snake oil cures. I’m going to skip the second principle for just a moment; we’ll come back to that one. Passion is also pretty straightforward. I love the written word. I think in words, I connect to text better than I do speech, and when I walk into a library or bookstore, I literally can’t wait to flip through the pages to feel the words. I am passionate about writing because it is the language I speak. Ironically enough, my husband and business partner often teases me (playfully) that my personal writing voice contains too many fragments. It does. But that’s simply a writing style.

But what about empowerment? Well, I empower my clients through education. I feel it is far better to teach a man (or woman) to fish (or write) than it is to do it for them without any real assistance. At first, this might seem like a bad business move. I’m teaching my clients to do what I do and cutting off my revenue at the base! But not really. By offering my clients education (empowerment), honesty, and passion I can help them grow their businesses and more importantly their voices.

So back to blogging. I was afraid to blog because I was afraid no one wanted to hear my (sometimes fragmented) personal voice. I was wrong.

You are wrong too if you think your customers don’t want to know about you.

You have a story behind your business. I want to know what it is. I bet they do too.

Not to mention it is phenomenal for improving your Google ranking.

So let’s start with an easy challenge. I challenge you to comment below and tell me what your business is built upon. Then I’d like to see you write a blog post about it.

I dare you.

You are very welcome. I appreciate your kind words. A book will likely be a project for the near future so stay tuned!

I really like it when individuals get together
and share thoughts. Great website, continue the good

I want to express my appreciation to the writer just for rescuing me from this type of situation. Right after searching through the online world and coming across ideas which are not beneficial, I thought my entire life was gone. Being alive without the answers to the problems you have fixed all through your good site is a crucial case, and the ones that might have adversely affected my career if I hadn’t encountered the blog. Your main expertise and kindness in taking care of a lot of things was very useful. I’m not sure what I would’ve done if I hadn’t come across such a solution like this. I am able to at this moment look ahead to my future. Thanks for your time very much for this impressive and result oriented guide. I will not think twice to suggest the website to any person who will need care about this issue.

I am in this process and my struggle is that I am at a loss for word. I don’t speak often in real life. I often say that my daily word quota is far, far lower than anyone else I know. It’s not that I don’t have an opinion, it’s just that I guess I don’t have a lot to say about it. I appreciate that you shared you struggled with finding your voice…and you love to write! Thanks Kateland. I’ve learned much from you in my short amount of time in Flourish.

It’s nice to hear that I’ve been able to connect with you! Pictures can be very powerful on blogs because people tend to respond to visual stimulation more than text online. Have you considered perhaps writing only a few sentences and centering it around images that pertain to your brand?

      • 5-6-2016

Absolutely. That is my plan, focus more on being a visual storyteller. Photography is my jam.

I am the first to admit I am a terrible photographer. I’m lucky I only need to deal with stock photography.

My business is built upon my love for creativity, my passion for building a future for my family and my dreams of being my own boss. I was always afraid to take the leap of actually telling myself “okay, this isn’t just a hobby anymore. Let’s make money” for many reasons, but I took that leap after becoming pregnant with my second child. Strange timing, I know. Lol!

Tell me more about what you do! Do you have a blog or a website? Feel free to share it if you do.

I love the way you write – clear, concise, to-the-point, yet gentle and kind. It’s helped me see nicer ways to word things in tricky situations. I value your writing advice and your writing style. I also appreciate and admire your goal to educate and empower your clients.

Thank you very much! I think I can help others, even if it is sometimes a bit fragmented along the way…

My business is literally built upon my dreams of a different era. One of vintage romance and the idea that there are other people like me who feel connected with that time. A time when weddings, parties, and family get togethers were created by family and friends coming together to make all things lovely, whether it be clothing, jewelry, flowers, or a delicious homemade casserole. It may be something eaborate or it may be simple, but the collaboration itself created beautiful memories of a happy occasion that will last forever.

I look forward to following your blog Kateland, and wish you lots of success!
